On 22nd January 2015, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Yojana was launched by the Prime Minister of India at Panipat, Haryana as a combination of three ministries – Women & Child Development, Health & Family Welfare, as well as Human Resource Development. This scheme aimed to tackle the alarming decline in the sex ratio caused by women’s disempowerment and discrimination against the girl child. It was initially introduced in 100 districts throughout India that was battling a low child sex ratio.
